Run it back is a documantary about Street Fighter and it’s competitive scene from 1992 to the release of the fighting game resurrection of Street Fighter IV. It’s broken down into 3 parts.
As you may have noticed, I didn’t include a lot of shooters in my previous two guides. There’s a reason for this: first and third person shooters simply work better with a keyboard and mouse. There is no debate. Yes you can get good with a controller, but it’s still an inferior input device on all fronts. The majority of keyboards have over 100 keys, and while most games don’t utilize them all to their utmost potential, it still allows for a larger set of options for game mechanics to be hinged upon. Never mind that anyone born after 1980 has used a mouse on their PC as it’s primary input device so there’s no real learning curve for aiming. That’s why shooters will always be inferior on a console. It’s not a troll, it’s fact. Deal with it.
Since there’s really no car simulators on PC with fully licensed road cars and race tracks there won’t be too much of that in this guide. Oddly enough the consoles have this market covered and I’m pretty sure we’ll never see a Gran Turismo or Forza Motorsport on PC any time ever. It’s pretty disappointing to know that a Microsoft Game Studios game won’t come to PC… it’s pretty weird too. So there’s no car sims on my list. As you can probably tell from my opening paragraph, I choose to play shooters on the PC because they’re better on that platform and for no other reason.
The trailers for this game give me chills. I’ve never seen facial animations quite like what Team Bondi games have come up with for L.A. Noire.

So Turn 10 decided that what we Xbox360 owners need is another Forza Motorsport game and has teased Forza Motorsport 4 with this video.
There’s little to no actual game footage, there’s some of a red Ford GT, but that’s pretty much a rehash of their E3 Kinect presentation and is in a menu. I think it’s mainly to try and steal a little of Gran Turismo 5’s thunder by announcing a game that’s 11 months away and doesn’t really have a reason to exist.
But what’s this? Jalopnik.com has found that Turn 10 has stolen footage from a film (coincidentally, and a rather funny twist of fate) named TURN9. See for yourself after the jump.
So here we are again with another holiday gift guide from your friends at SSBB. This time around I’ll be posting my gift guide for Microsofts Xbox360 console. Next will come my gift guide for the PC. There will be no PS3 guide as I don’t have one, but you can probably guess that if I was to do one it would include Gran Turismo 5 at the top of it. I’d also probably add any number of cross platform games as well. So if you have a PS3 and you’re reading my blog (you’re probably the only one) then get GT5 and some sort of cross platform game, some of which I’ll mention here. Anyway on to the gift guide thingamajig, or something.
It seems to be that time of year again. The time when we preach to others about peace and love and the time of giving, then curse the day they were born over a parking spot at the mall. Yes it’s the holidays again… isn’t it wonderful? Smell the marginal religious themed capitalism! Isn’t it grand?

After a brief hiatus it’s time to delve into the depths of rental fun. I had a choice between Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and Dead Rising 2. You can guess by the title of this post that I chose the latter. Let’s see if Capcom’s second foray into the zombie apocalypse is worth it or not. There’s an included manual with about 24 pages in it, but the game will show icons for any context sensitive action on screen so it’s not really anything special. The trend with black and white, thin game manuals has to stop. If developers want us to spend $60 on their game(s) then a robust manual is a good way to show us that. Anyway, on with the game playing and such…
So EA and THQ have decided that the used games market is hurting their bottom line so now they’re going to charge for on disk content.

Away we go, into the unknown realm of the rental shelf. I didn’t know what to expect from this game, it had been released about the same time as Bayonetta and was, for some reason, compared to it. Being compared to Bayonetta isn’t a bad thing as it’s probably the best action game since DMC3, but Darksiders isn’t really an action game. Either way I had unfairly ignored it for long enough, it’s time to gamble $10 on this game and see what it brings to the table.
